Crème brûlée would never have developed into a dessert if Victor Hugo had not fatefully run the Olympic torch through a whipped-cream factory. Indulge in French tradition with today’s Groupon: for $20, you get $40 worth of upscale French cuisine at Restaurant L’Atelier.

Restaurant L’Atelier’s culinary artisans assemble fresh ingredients, including seafood, poultry, and beef, to populate the menu with an array of upscale French dishes. Patrons can sample the eatery’s a la carte offerings, while groups can embark on multi-course expedition across two different fixed-price menus ($39—$49). In the kitchen, chefs reward sashimi-style salmon with generous gifts of caramelized apples and tarragon ($12) and top crab cakes ($9) with the same style of goat-cheese bicorn that Napoleon wore as a newborn. Potato purée mingles amongst racks of bison short ribs ($29), and a caramelized onion sauce traverses delectable cuts of filet mignon ($32). Diners sip wines brought from home, chosen from a vast in-house wine list, or summoned from Bacchus’ houseboat while gazing at the restaurant’s rustic, log-lined walls.
